Describe the life cycle of a (-)RNA virus. (no pictures or diagrams)

Solutions

Expert Solution

In negative strand RNA virus, stsges of life cycke are as follows.:

Virus binds on the cell membrane of host cells throug its glycoprotein coat.

Then viral capsid snd genome enter inside the cell. The release of genomic RNA in the cytosol throgh digestion of cspsid.

These negative RNA, canot act as mRNA, so these mRNA act as the template for synthesis of different positive mRNA.

New viral genome is synthesize using complementary(+) RNA as the template

Complementary (+) RNA strand act as the template for synthesing capsid protein and glycoprotein for viral envelopes in ER

Vesicular transport envelopes glycoprotein to the plasma membrane

A capsid assemble around each viral genome molecle.

Each new virus buds from the cell, envelooe and glycoprotein are embedded in the membrane derive from the host cell. Capsid are also present areond viral cells.

Now mature or complete virus comes out of the cell through lysis.

Suppose that you isolated an enveloped helical RNA virus. Purified RNA from this virus is capable of supporting translation in a rabbit reticulocyte cellfree translation system or in any other such system Further analysis indicates that this virus replication is inhibited if infected cells are incubated with protease inhibitor such as trypsin inhibitor. Based on this information, discuss the mechanism by which this virus replicates its genome in infected susceptible, permissive cells.
