A democracy means rule by the people. The name is used for different forms of government, where the people can take part in the decisions that affect the way their community is run. ... The people elect their leaders. These leaders take this decision about laws. This is commonly called representative democracy

Democracies rest upon the principle that government exists to serve the people. More specifically, in democracies, these fundamental rights include freedom of speech and expression, freedom of religion and conscience, freedom of assembly, and the right to equal protection before the law.

MORE DEMOCRATIC UNITED STATES LOOK LIKE:

2) Democracy as a system of governance is supposed to allow extensive representation and inclusiveness of as many people and views as possible to feed into the functioning of a fair and just society. The ideal of pluralism gives the hope that men and women of different religions, ethnicities, races, ideologies, and world views can live together in a democratic society where they govern themselves and are free and equal citizens.

3) Allowing their diverse populations to elect their own senators and reducing the racial inequality.

4)  One of the most important strategies in this direction is to change the huge monolithic structure of the government and bring it closer to the citizens by creating “small governments’’ at the local level.

Local authorities have better access to information about their constituents and that they are more easily held accountable by the local population. This will improve governance not only by increasing the efficiency, but also by increasing its transparency and responsiveness.

6)  Women and minority groups should be included in the decision-making process

7) Federal principles have to be extended to all the units of the federation.
