1.Draw and label two cells at anaphase of mitosis and anaphase I of meiosis in a species having 2n = 4 chromosomes (one homologous pair of metacentric chromosomes and a pair of acrocentric chromosomes).

2.Sketch the cell cycle

Solutions

Expert Solution

Anaphase is the stage of cell division where chromosome (or chromatids) separate and gather at two opposite poles.

Anaphase of mitosis and Anaphase I of meiosis differs with each other. In anaphase of mitosis, sister chromatids get separated. However in Anaphase I of mitosis, each homologogous chromosomes get separated and gather at two opposite poles. Since chromosomes separete in anaphase I, it is called reduction division as after this chromosome number become half at two poles.

Anaphase II of meisois is similar to anaphase of mitosis, because sister chromatids get separated here.

Answer 2: Cell cycle involves Interphase and cell division phase (M-Phase)

Interphase is divided in to

  • G1-phase: here cell grows metabolically.
  • S-phase: Here, DNA replication takes place
  • G2-phase: cells prepares for division

M-phase is divided in to:

  • Prophase
  • Metaphase
  • Anaphase
  • Telophase

After telophase cytokinesis occurs and two daughter cells are formed. each one again enters in to cell cycle.
