Which of the following items is not monitored by a special sense receptor?

Which of the following items is not monitored by a special sense receptor?

 A Pain.

 B Sight.

 C Hearing.

 D Smell.

Solutions

Expert Solution

(A) pain

Explanation = pain is NOT sensed by any special receptor. Any stimulus can be percived as pain beyond certain limit (that is when any stimulus is harmful) example

  • Change in pressure - sensed by PRESSURE SENSITIVE RECEPTOR. When blunt end of pen is pressed on hand it doesn't cause pain but when tip of pin is pressed then it causes pain but both activates pressure receptor.

Sight - sensed by light receptor present in retina of eye (rods and cons)

Hearing - sensed in choclea which sense change in air pressure transmitted by tympanic membrane.

Smell - by olfactory receptor which are present in nose.
