Is Castration An Effective Medicine For Sex Offenders ?
Castration is one of the oldest and most controversial methods of treating sex offenders. Most European countries have abandoned surgical castration in favor of so-called chemical castration: weekly injections with drugs called anti-androgens that blunt the sex drive.
The most common misconception about castration is that it involves amputating the male organ. In fact, surgical castration usually involves removal of the testicles that produce the male hormone testosterone. The male organ is left intact.
Castration can reduce the risk of sex offenders, where hormones and sex drive are the main factors behind committing sex crimes. But if the offender’s sex crimes stem from alcohol or drug abuse, or are a result of psychological factors, medical experts say that castration probably won’t make a difference.

It’s the interaction of those four boxes that determine whether someone is going to sexually offend.
counterclaims:
Some say mandatory castration violates human rights. Others believe the punishment fits the crime. There’s also the issue of informed consent. Opponents to castration argue that it’s legally (and ethically) impossible for an imprisoned sex offender to consent to the medical procedure.
A man who is chemically castrated can expect an increase in body fat and a decrease in bone density. Over time, treatment could result in heart disease and/or osteoporosis. Additionally, men experience an overall “feminization” of the body, including reduced muscle mass, body hair and enlarged breasts.
Rape crisis workers say that violence, not sex, is the real problem. A rapist who has been castrated "could still be a phenomenal danger. He can go out and, instead of raping people, he can assault them with broom handles or bottles or beat them up or kill them.
therapists first must overcome the disordered thinking common among sex offenders. Many deny or minimize the impact of their behavior.
