Expert Solution

The movie Up in the Air has a lot of lessons regarding various aspects of human resource practices. The implementation and execution of HR practices are not a cup of tea. Instead, it requires strong motivation, strong determination on decision-making, and an empathetic consoling power. The protagonist of the movie Ryan has shown all the aspects of a human resource manager who was the termination manager of the consultancy firm in Omaha, Nebraska.
A human resource manager should be efficient enough in motivating his employees using motivational words. It teaches the most effective way of human resource practices which is employee-motivation. He motivated employees for their excellent performance. On the contrary, he was firm enough in his decision of termination.
A human resource manager needs to stand still on the decision without affected by external forces. At the same time, he was a master in consoling the terminated employees, which is an effective skill for human resource practitioners. He could well convince them the reasons behind the termination and motivated them for their future opportunities which Natalie lacked. She did not have that power to motivate employees which resulted in various suicidal cases. A human resource manager must know how to encourage and console an employee when he is down and has lost hope from his prospects.
A human resource manager needs to know the ways to utilize the motivational speeches in his own life to set an example for employees which Ryan failed to do. Moreover, the HR practitioners need to expressive instead of being introvert which can be learned from the character of Ryan's mistake. He was unable to tell Alex about his feeling though he did not know about Alex's marriage. The open expression makes a healthy- manager-employee relationship which is the key to organizational success.
