How might normal microbiota play a role in the development of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria
Question
The normal microbiota plays an important role in the nutrients metabolism, providing immunity and xenobiotics, drugs metabolism. But sometimes, these microbioata play a role in the antibiotic resistance in bacteria pathogen that live inside host.
The normal microbiota have some resistance genes in them. But when human take high dose of antibiotics, long exposure of antibiotics, this lead to the mutation in them. The result of the mutation result in the development of the resistance in these bacteria. Further, these bacteria transfer their resistance genes to another microbioata and pathogenic bacteria by horizontal gene transfer methods like transformation, conjugation etc. This lead to the development of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria.
