explain two factors that might control the changes in distribution and virulence of malaria in a changing climate?
Malaria is one of the most common vector borne disease in the tropics. The pathogens are protozoan parasites in the genes Pladmodium that are transmitted to humans by female Anopheles mosquito.
Temperature, rainfall, humidity and wind each play a role in determining the disribution and incedence of malaria. Warmer the temperature mosquitoes develop more rapidly and feed more frequently. An increase in rainfall is positively correlayed witj an increase in vector density and increase in malaria.
Environmental sanitation by application of mosquito repellent sprays and mosquito control such as draining of swamps that breeds some species of Anopheles should be done. Lfe style changes such as screening windows and ventilators of houses and using air conditioners also allow people to minimum exposture to mosquitoes.Research to develop safe and effective global vaccines for malaria is ongoing. Development of vaccine will control the malaria to a great extent.
