can you please explain modes of transmission of e.coli

and please please explain virulence factors of E.coli in simple details.

thank you so much

Solutions

Expert Solution

modes of transmission of E coli:

1) consumption of contaminated food

  • Raw meat
  • Raw milk
  • Raw vegetables and sprouts

2) consumption of contaminated water

  • If water intended for recreation and human consumption gets contaminated, it results in the spread of E coli

3)animal-human contact

  • Playing with animals in zoos
  • Inhalation of dust particles

4)person to person contact

  • Fecal oral route
  • In case of infants and young children
  • Due to unhygienic methods

5)intake of contaminated fruits and vegetables

  • Contaminated seeds
  • Contaminated irrigation water
  • Flooding

Virulence factors of E coli-

Virulence factors are the molecules which adds to the effectiveness in the spread of infection by E coli

  • E coli species is subdivided into several pathogenic strains causing different intestinal ,urinary tract or internal infection in humans and pathogens
  • Virulence factors are as follows:-
  1. Adhesins- fimbrial adhesins, afimbrial adhesins, outer membrane proteins
  2. Type 3 secretin system
  3. Toxins ( oligo peptides and RTX pore forming toxins

All the above molecules directly interact with epithelial cells of intestinal, respiratory and urinary tracts.

Hope the answer is clear to you...
