Describe the experiments that revealed the structure of the genetic material. If a sample of DNA contains 8% adenine (A), then what are the pwecentage of thymine (T), cytosine(C), and guanine(G).?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Rosalind Franklin's nd Maurice Wilkins X ray diffraction techniques provided an idea of spiral double helical structure of DNA. WHEN X rays are focused through pure molecule fibre the fibre atoms and molecule will deflect X ray particles. This give an pattern of structure of that molecule and this technique is called as X Ray diffraction. They passes X ray through purified DNA AND get helical image of it. Due to some misunderstanding they parted their way and wilkin along with Watson and Crick using this photo proposed Double helical structure of DNA. They also use chargaff rule to predict amount of purine and pyrimidine.

Conc of adenine=8 percent.

Acc to chargaff amount of A= amount of T and amount of C=amount of G.

So, thymine is 8%. Remaining is 100-16= 84 .So amount of C and G each is 42 percent.
