Steve and Marissa are in the midst of an acrimonious divorce. Their 9-year-old son Dennis has become hostile and defiant. How can Steve and Marissa help Dennis adjust?
.
How does each level in Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory - microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem - contribute to the effects of maternal employment on children's development?
Steve and Marissa can help Dennis adjust in the following way:
1. Steve and Marissa should not fight in the front of Dennis.
2. Explain their situation to the Dennis about why they are going to separate.
3. Provide the Dennis with as much continuity and familiarity.
4. Steve and Marissa should respond sympathetically to the Dennis feeling.
5. Steve and Marissa should should opt for authoritative parenting.
According to Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, microsystems include immediate family, friends or school or daycare. The more encouragement atmosphere, children receive from microsystem will affect the good development of children.
Mesosystem will tell, how microsystem work in coordination for child development. The more the coordination between different microsystems, the better the growth of the child.
Ecosystem level include neighbourhood, parents' workplaces. The more positive effect these places have, more the development of a child.
The macrosystem comprises of the things like relative freedoms allowable by the national government and cultural values etc. These things too affect the child development either positively or negatively.
