A 35-year-old mother of two grade school-aged children who is in the midst of a contentious divorce presents to the clinic where you work. She tells you that yesterday when she got home from work, she was bending over to put laundry in the washer and she suddenly felt her “heart racing, pounding” in her chest. She also tells you that her skin was cool and clammy. She rested and eventually her symptoms resolved.
a. Describe the possible causes of these symptoms.
b. Identify key factors that you would want to include in your assessment to identify the cause of these symptoms.
c. Describe what may be included in education for this patient.
d. Describe possible nursing interventions for this patient.
Palpitations: it is the feelings or sensations that our heart is pounding or racing.
a)Heart pounding can cause due to underlying disease. Examples include skipped heartbeats, variation with breathing, exercise, stress, smoking, alcohol or some medications.
Also include: arrhythmia, cardiovascular disease, ectopic beat.
b)factor for heart disease is something that lead to cause realted issues.
Factors include :Overexertion or exercise,stress, consumption of alcohol ,Tobacco or other diet pills,over thyroid activity ,Anemia,Hormonal changes during menstruation,lower blood pressure , medication of thyroid drugs etc.
c)Try to Seek medical attention at the right away if you have heart palpitations and other related heart problem.
patient should be concern with the underlying changes:
Try to Reduce stress, do relaxation exercises, deep breathing and also other stress-reduction techniques can help decrease recurrences of palpitations of heart.
Also try to include not to smoke,eat a low fat ,low cholesterol diet etc.
d) patients physical examination should be taken initially.
Various test such as urine test,blood test,stress test should be done.
Also ultrasound of heart,chest x ray, electrocardiogram should be done to rule out the problem.
