Society has advanced dramatically in the past century, and along with that transportation has shifted from the reliable horse and carts to planes, trains, and automobiles. After the invention of the motor vehicle we have never looked back when it comes to creating innovative new designs and creating more efficient automobiles. Planes and Trains have also made a leap in the past century forever changing the time it takes to travel places. In the present time period we have massive trains engines that can pull miles and miles of train cars. Fully electric cars are the future of ground transportation. The use of electricity in cars will also have a massive impact on future transportation. Large engines that use combustible fuel usually drive trains, but electric trains are also being used around the world and have been for decades. Electric trains are used around the world most for transportation of people instead of goods. Their electric motors are powered from a receiver that remains in contact with a wire supplying the electricity that runs parallel with the train. Electric trains are more efficient, cheaper to run, and they can accelerate much faster than their previous predecessors .Electricity and magnetism are already being used in transportation methods in the present time to a certain degree, but electricity and magnetism are going to be two of the most important factors used in creating the future of our transportation. Electric cars are no longer a thing of the past in today’s times. However, they are sparsely found due to high prices, and the lack of motivation to purchase one. Many people stray away from them because people think that they cannot travel very far distances on a charge. A type of car that is going to help lead consumers to purchase fully electric cars in future is the hybrid vehicle, which is a gasoline/electric car that uses gas power for the higher power is needed, and uses electricity when power is not needed as much . The future for electric cars is to develop more efficient batteries that can keep the car on the road longer. Also, more places around the country will provide places to charge your vehicle. At first these cars will be expensive, but with technology advancements the batteries that power the car will become smaller, cheaper, and more available .Fully electric cars are the future of ground transportation. Magnetism will have a great impact on our future transportation, because of the “levitation” abilities it offers. Other future trains, besides possibly the “vac-train,” will use magnetism in more ways than trains have before. Trains will use “magnetic levitation”, or “maglev”, in order to propel them “300 plus miles an hour” . Like the “vac-train,” these so called “MagLev trains” will use “magnetic levitation” instead of wheels. Doing so will, as said before, eliminate friction between the train cars and track. The trains will be accelerated and slowed down by “a traveling magnetic field” instead of motors or any other propulsion devices . In order to supply the magnets, the use of “constant electrical energy” is needed. New designs are being established in order to eliminate the use of electricity to supply the magnetic power for the trains. There are already trains that use a type of “magnetic levitation” in other parts of the world, but perhaps in the future society will be able to have these types of trains all around the world using them to move people around between cities at extremely fast speeds . Another type of train system of the future is the “high speed string rail,” and this type of transportation is said to be drastically cheaper and more effective than the other previously mentioned methods of travel. This new type of rail system that is being theorised will use “steel or concrete rails” that are positioned high above the ground by support towers .Also, since the train will be up off the ground it will be much cheaper to produce this form of transportation because the train can easily be made to go over rough terrain, mountains, or water.

More futuristic versions of transportation will be methods like the “vac-train” that will use a vacuum sealed tunnel with train cars propelled by “linear-induction motors,” and “magnetic levitation” instead of wheels.Electricity and magnetism are going to play a large role in the future of our transportation and supply us with extremely efficient means of travel.

Magnetism - comparing its basic properties with the basic properties of electricity there are similarities, yet distinct differences, seen. Together, electricity and magnetism can be combined to form the more general theory of electromagnetism - seeing that electricity and magnetism can be seen as "opposites sides of the same coin."
