A phytochemical known as Barago has been found to be a competitive inhibitor of 2,3-Bisphosphoglycerate onhemoglobin. What would be the effect of Barago on; (i) Adult hemoglobin, (ii) Fetal hemoglobin? [ Justify your response
normally 2,3BPG have very less interaction with the fetal haemoglobin while having the high binding affinity to the adult haemoglobin. And we know that 2,3BPG binding to the haemoglobin inversely proportional to the oxygen affinity for haemoglobin.
effect of Barago on (i) Adult haemoglobin- binding of Barago with 2,3BPG, then it will no more bind to the haemoglobin. In turn of that oxygen have the high affinity for haemoglobin. and oxygen will less dissociate and less available to the tissues.

As we already know that in fetal case 2,3BPG already have less interaction. So Barago have not much effects on fetal haemoglobin as in case of adult haemoglobin
