List three unique meteorological features of Superstorm Sandy
Solution: The three meteorological unique features of Superstorm Sandy are mentioned below:
(1) The unusual path of Superstorm Sandy: Generally these type of Nor'Easter cyclones striking at the eastern coast of United States move north upto southeastern coastline then follow warm water current making landfall on the New England Coast. But, Superstorm Sandy , a strong Nor'Easter cyclone changed its path by heading northeast dodging North Carolina and thus avoiding weakening effects from landfall.
(2) The Storm's Makeup : The Superstorm Sandy underwent a transformation from tropical cyclone to a super-tropical cyclone.Generally, tropical cyclones are generated from the warm ocean currents while super-tropical cyclones generates from the warm and cold air masses clash. But, Sandy generated from both the sources making it more intense.
(3) The duration of the storm:Mostly cyclones at the East Coast of United States last for few hours but this superstorm continued for 2-3 days. It gradually weakened but continued to blow heavy winds with rains and heavy snow in some areas. The winds were blowing at a speed of 70-90 mph due to large pressure differences.
