List the features found in prokaryotes but not eukaryotes. What are advantages provided by these features?
The Flagellum, Capsule and Fimbriae are found in prokaryotes.
Answer : prokaryots lacks membrane bound organelles like mitochondria, nucleus etc.
Rigid cell wall: it is present in prokaryots which helps bacteria in pathogenesis and survival in extreme condition.
Nucleiod: As the DNA is in direct contact with cytoplasm so transcription and translation occurs simultaneously as compared to eukaryotes.
Plasmid: it is present in prokaryots but rare in eukaryotes. It contain some important genes.
Haploid genome: benefits includes- the mutation rate is low and allels are rapidly transfer.
1. Flagella : it is present in prokaryots. Most of the prokaryots are motile and flagella help in movement and pathogenesis.
2. Capsule: they protect bacteria from being phagocytosed by the host immune cell. Capsule also contain water content which prevent bacteria from being desiccated.
3. Fimbriae : fimbriae help in adhesion or attachments of bacteria so that the bacteria colonies itself and protected from detachment.
Pilus help in conjugation.
