The countries which give its citizens the right to choose their leaders are called democracies. Modern democracies have a voting system to choose the leaders. This process is called election. The election process differs from country to country. But the basic idea is to allow the citizens to choose a leader from themselves according to their wishes.
Even though the process of voting or election differs from country to country, the fundamentals are the same in all countries. Every citizen will have the right to compete in the election based upon certain criteria set by particular countries. Their religion, caste, society, color, financial background, etc would not disqualify them from competing in the election. Every citizen who has attained an age of 18 and has sound health will have a voting right which they can use according to their wish.
The first process to compete as a candidate is to file a nomination before the office in charge of conducting the election. The qualified candidates will be given time to campaign among the voters. After the voting, the votes are counted and those who have maximum votes will be declared as the winner. They will be presided over the office whichever was elected for.
