Give some examples of how being rejected or ostracized hurts:
What do we know about ostracism and the brain?
Is being rejected similar to physical pain? How?
1.When a person gets rejected or ostracized then its self confidence gets really affected which prevents him or her to see any hope and over the time there success starts to decrease. They also feel lonely and sometimes shameful which leads to feeling of guit and regret and these negative emotions entraps them affecting them at physiological level and making them depressed and isolated also bitter to world.Over time this might lead to development in them criminal activities or manifestsation of numerous mental disorder like bipolar disorder in extreme cases.
2The ostracism or shunning is a an invisible form of bulying that can last much longer than phyical injury and permanent invisible scar as the brain dorsal cingulate cortex feels this ostracism injury it is the same region which registers physical pain.
3,Though our brain does not register the physical pain and rejection as same but the following reactions to both are same for eg the release of natural pain killers occur in both of these events. So being rejected is that emotional pain though not visible but almost similar or more effective than physical brain.
