Use of fuzzy logic in biomedical expert systems and diagnosis.
The diagnosis of disease involves several levels of uncertainty and imprecision, and it is inherent to medicine. It is very complicated to decide that which medicine will be suitable for the patient and how the body react against the particular disease as the stamina of different people is different. A single disease may manifest itself quite differently, depending on the patient, and with different intensities. A single symptom may correspond to different diseases. On the other hand, several diseases present in a patient may interact and interfere with the usual description of any of the diseases. To deal with imprecision and uncertainty, we have fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic introduces partial truth values, between true and false.
Fuzzy logic are a highly suitable and applicable basis for developing knowledge-based systems such as in medicine, biomedical expert systems and diagnosis for tasks such as the interpretation of sets of medical findings, syndrome differentiation, diagnosis of diseases, for the optimal selection of medical treatments, and for real-time monitoring of patient data. Fuzzy logic enable automated assessment and reasoning in a logically consistent manner means the way in which humans reason. Computer-aided diagnosis system based on fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic can help reduce the difficulties faced by computational systems to represent and simulate the reasoning and the style adopted by radiologists in the process of medical image analysis.
The complexity of medical practice makes traditional quantitative approaches of analysis inappropriate. In medicine, the lack of information, and its imprecision, and, many times, contradictory nature are common facts due to many reasons such as lack of information about the patient and about their medical history, lack of physical examination, sometimes results of laboratory and other diagnostic tests have some mistakes which sometimes may be due to improper behavior of the patient prior to the examination..Fuzzy logic plays an important role in medicine. An Expert System is a computer system that emulates the decision making ability of a human expert. Expert systems continue to evolve for specific applications in medical diagnosis. This is necessary because the influx of new information is so massive that the expert systems must be specialized. Therefore, the use of fuzzy logic in biomedical expert systems and diagnosis is our need in the present scenario.
