Linda Hines is a 17 year old patient in your dental office. While sitting in the reception area, Linda notices a poster of MyPyramid on the wall and asks you what it means. How would you explain the concept of the pyramid?
MyPyramid was an updated version of the American food guide pyramid which was issued from 2005 till 2011. The nature of this chart would be explained to Linda in the following manner:
“ Imagine your life as a progression along a set of steps with each upward movement representing a crucial point of success. Just as in your academic achievements, you need to perform certain actions such as regularly reading, writing assignments and having a good peer interaction, you need to meet certain nutritional targets in terms of your physical health. There are important foods which ensure your movement along the way so that you can reach the apex or the highest peak of well being. The pyramid which you see in the chart elaborates the importance of including Grains, vegetables, fruits, healthy oils, milk, meat and beans regularly in your diet. However, eating these foods alone will not be sufficient. One also needs to be active, and thus the person you see in the chart is shown to be climbing up the staircase. This highlights the significance of mainataing an optimum level of physical activity appropriate to your age body weight. In the awe of children and teenagers such as yourself, a 60 minutes of physical activity or sports each day is a good start to ensure both physical and psychological well being.
Well,I hope this answers your question about the pyramid and this information will beneficial to you and others when you share it with them.”
