I​​ INCENTIVE SPIROMETRY

It is a process of helping lung to get recover after a surgery or illness. It is done using incentive spirometer.

STEPS OF INCENTIVE SPIROMETRY

• Sit upright on a chair or bed., Hold incentive spirometer at eye level.
• Put mouth piece in mouth. After closing mouth tightly exhale ( breathout) completely
• Then slowly breathe in( inhale)
• You will see the piston rise inside large column( try to get piston as high as possible)., the indicator should be between two arrows.
• When you get it high hold your breath for 10 seconds. When you are holding breath, piston will fall in to base of spirometer.
• When piston reaches bottom of spirometer, breathe out through mouth. Rest for few minutes.
• Repeat it for 10 times.
• After each 10 sets, try to cough.
