If the phosphoglycerate mutase reaction the side chain of which as in thE enzyme is transiently phosphorylated as part of the reaction .,

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer. His residue of the enzyme

Glycolysis is an ancient catabolic pathway which leads to breakdown of 1 molecule of glucose to 2 molecules of pyruvate yielding net 2ATP molecules.

Glycolysis

The enzyme phosphoglycerate mutase catalyzees the conversion of 3-phosphoglycerate to 2-phosphoglycerate. This occurs via an exchange of phosphate involving a His residue of the enzyme.

  • His residue on the enzyme has a phosphate group attached to it.
  • This is tranferred to the substrate (3-phosphoglycerate) to form 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate.
  • The phosphate group at the C-3 is tranferred to the His residue of the enzyme, thus generating the product (2-phosphoglycerate).
