Which biomolecules are relevant to function and structure? Use those biomolecules to explain the difference in appearance of the two organisms. Explain your response.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The biomolecules which are relevant to function and structure are proteins, enzymes and hormones. The proteins which also include enzymes and hormones are responsible for performing different functions along with ensuring that the structures are properly maintained. Each of the proteins have different functions and some also provide structural support like in movement, imparting immunity, metabolism, catalysis of various important cycles etc.

The appearance in two organisms is largely determined by the type of protein it has. Depending on the type of protein produced, the function of the organisms varies from one another. For example – an organism with more concentration of hemoglobin helps in better circulation of the oxygen along the blood circulation as compared to one with low hemoglobin. In terms of appearance, if there is high keratin presence in the hair, the hair tends to be smooth and straight as compared to hair with low keratin treatment. People with high melanin content are darker as compared to people with low melanin content.

Which of the following is NOT a difference of archaeal membrane lipids relative to those of other organisms? A backbone other than glycerol is used. Fatty acid esters are replaced with long chain alcohol esters to the glycerol. The long hydrophobic tails are branched rather than being linear. Ether linkages instead of ester linkages are used.
