centella astiaca
preparation
Centella asiatica is a medicinal plant used to treat small wounds,burns and scleroderma.The active compounds in this plants are pentacyclic triterpenes like asiatic acids.This are called as centelloids.This compounds in the plants increase the synthesis of collagen and promote fibroblast proliferation.It also reduce the effects of keloids and scars.This plant is used to treat leprosy,insect bite and epilepsy.
Centella asiatica belongs to Apiaceae family and grows in India, Pakistan and regions of central America.
The preparation of centella asiatica extract is by;
1.Create an extract by exposing parts of Centella asiatica to an alcoholic solvent.This forms an alcoholic solution.
2.Now pass this alcoholic solution over an anionic resin to form aqueous alcoholic eluate.
3.Now selectively defat the aqueous alcoholic eluate.
4.Concentrate the defattened aqueous alcoholic eluate.
5.Filtrate the aqueous alcoholic eluate.
6.Now pass this aqueous phase first over the cationic resin and then on anionic resin.
7.Add alcohol to the aqueous phase to stabilize it.This forms a prepurified aqueous alcoholic phase.
8.Now use chromatographic column to separate the prepurified aqueous alcoholic phase.
9.By separation a mixture containing more than 95%wt of madecassoside ,terminoloside relative to the extract's total weight is obtained.
These extracts can be used to make anti-aging cosmetics.These extract heal and soothe skin, reduce acne,high in antioxidants and reduce the spots on the body.
