and preparations
- Sambong
- Scientific Name: Blumea balsamifera
- These herbal medicicne used to treat edema ,treatment of kidney
stones and it also used as a Diuretic .
- It is contraindicated to use in kidney infection
Preparation
- Boil chopped leaves in water for 15 minutes until one glassful
remains.
- Cool and strain the leaves
- Divide decoction into 3 parts.
- Then drink one part 3 times a day.
2.Akapulko
- Scientifically it is known as Cassia alata
- It is used as Anti-fungal agent, it also found to be effective
againest Tinea Flava, Ringworm, Athlete ’s Foot and Scabies
Preparation
- Fresh, matured leaves are pounded.
- Then instructed to apply as a soap to the affected
part 1 to 2 times a day.

Niyug-Niyogan
- It is a vine which bears tiny fruits and grows wild
in backyards
- Scientifically it is known as Quisqualis indica
- It is used as an Anti-helmintic
- Adults are allowed to take 10 seeds and children after 4 yaers
used to take 4 seeeds
- Children below 4 are contraindicated to take the seeeds
Preparation
- Seeds of niyug-niyogan are eaten raw two hours before the
patient’s last meal of the day
4. Tsaang
Gubat
- It is a shrub with small, shiny leaves which grows in wild
uncultivated areas and forests.
- Scientifically it is known as Carmona retusa
- It is used in the treatment of Diarrhea and
Stomach ache
Preparation
- First boil chopped leaves in 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes
or until amount of water goes down to 1 glass.
- Cool and strain.
- Wash leaves and chop. Boil chopped leaves in 1 glass of water
for 15 minutes.
- Cool and filter/strain and drink.
5.Ampalaya
- Scientifically this herb is known as Momordica charantia
- It is helps in Lowers blood sugar levels and thus used in
treatnment of Diabetes Mellitus
Preaparation
- After thoroughly washing the leaves chop it in to fine
pieces
- Boil 6 tablespoons in two glassfuls of water for 15 minutes
under low fire by not covering the pot.
- Cool and strain.
- Take one third cup 3 times a day after meals.
6.Lagundi
- It is a shrub growing wild in vacant lots and waste
land
- It is known as Vitex negundo scientifically
- It is used for Asthma , Fever, Dysentery, Colds & Pain ,
Skin diseases and wounds , Headache ,Rheumatism, sprain, contu
sions, insect bites. and Aromatic bath for sick patients
Preparation
Asthma, cough and
fever
- Boil chopped raw fruits or leaves in 2 glasses of water left
for 15 minutes until the water left to 1 glass and thn Strain.
Dysentery
- colds and pain, boil a handful of leaves and flowers in water
to produce a glass full of decoction 3 time a day.
skin diseases including
dermatitis, scabies, ulcer, eczema and wounds
- prepare a decoction of the leaves.
- Wash and clean the skin/wound with the decoction.
Headache
- crushed leaves may be applied on the forehead.
Rheumatism, sprain,
contusions and insect bites
- pound the leaves and apply on the affected part.
7. Ulasimang
Bato
- It is a weed with heartshaped leaves that grow in shady parts
of the garden and yard which is Scientifically known as
Peperomia pellucida
- It is used in the reatment of Rheumatism and Gout
Preparation
- After washing one and a half cup leaves are boiled in two
glassfuls of water over low fire.
- Do not cover pot.
- Cool and strain.
- Divide into three parts and drink each part 3 times a day a
day.
- It can also eat as salads
8.Bawang
- Commonly known as garlic
- It is scientifically known as Allium sativum
- It is used for hypertension ,Toothache and it also help
to lower cholesterol levels in the blood
- It should not be consumed in empty stomach since it tend to
cause ulcer
Preparation
- It can be fried, roasted, soaked in vinegar for 30 minutes, or
blanched in boiled water for 5 minutes.
- Take two pieces three times a day after meals.
- For toothache, pound a small piece and apply to affected
part.
9.
Ayabas
- commonly known as Guava
- Scientific Name: Psidium guajava
- It is used to wash wounds , used for toothache
,diarrhea
Preparation
- Warm decoction is used for gargle.
- Freshly pounded leaves are used for toothache.
- Guava leaves are to be washed well and chopped.
- Boil for 15 minutes at low fire.
- Do not cover pot. Cool and strain before use.
10. Yerba
Buena
- Commonly known as Peppermint
- The leaves are small, elliptical and with toothed margin.
- The stem creeps to the ground, and develop roots.
- Scientific name is Mentha cordifelia
It is used for ,
- head ache, stomach ache
- Rheumatism, arthritis and headache
- Cough and cold
- Swollen gums & toothache
- Menstrual and gas pain
- Nausea and fainting
- Insect bites & Pruritus
Preparation
- For pain , boil chopped leaves in 2 glasses of water for 15
minutes. Cool and strain.
- For rheumatism, arthritis and headache, crush the fresh leaves
and squeeze sap.
- Massage sap on painful parts with eucalyptus.
