Ethical and corporate responsibility issues in a hospital need
to be addressed carefully. Some ethical issues that need to be
considered during hospital governance are ,upholding basic human
rightsand values.Along with human rights it is the social
responsibility of the hospital's management team to protect the
surrounding environment and beings. Following all the laws and
regulations conferred by the administration is also a part of the
social responsibity of the hospital governance. The hospital
governance is responsible for putting up the ethical issues and
addressing them individually, considering the time and situation
that exists. One must also see to it that the sentiments of the
inviduals are not hurt. Also the uplifting of society's values,
beliefs are morals should be on the forefront.
Some potential ethical dilemmas in hospital include:
- Informed
consent:At times the patient and the patient's families will
not be aware of the risks involved post procedures or surgeries,
even though the consent is obtained. They refuse to agree upon that
they were explained by the nurse or the doctor about the risks
involved and prognosis.
- Disclosing the disease
condition to relatives: This is another dilemma that has
existed for ages. For example:If a patient is tested positive for
HIV, then he/she would not like their spouses or family members to
know about it because they would judge them. But as ahealthcare
professional if we think about the health safety of the spouse we
will have to disclose the matter.here lies te dilemma.if we do that
we would be breaking patient's privacy and rights.
- Do not
resuscitate is another ethical dilemma in healthcare.
As a decision maker I would make sure that all the business
ethics are upheld in my organisation especially
,Utilitarian,Universalism,Virtue ethics,Justice.
- Utilitarian:As
a decison maker of my organisation I would see to it that the
morality of the organisation is maintained throughout. Fostering to
the happiness and well being of the employees and all the
stakeholders will be the goal to be achieved.
- Universalism:Building the same
morale within the organisation and treating each one fairly should
be the motive under this business ethic. As a decision maker I would
make decisons within the the organisation keeping in mind the
betterment of all the employees and righful stakeholders of my
organisation.
- Virtue Ethics:
Good virtues create a powerful organisation. As manager or decision
maker it's extremely importantant to uphold virtues like honesty,
compassion, generosity, integrity etc.One must ensure to reward
their employees who follow such virtues in work ethics in their
organisation. This in turn would develop a strong sense of virtue
ethics within your organisation and moreover motivate others to
work accordingly.
- Justice:This is
important human value that has to be a part of any business
ethics. No business without fairness. So as a decision maker be aware
of your rights and never step back to fight for your rights and
obtain justice. At the same time follow the nominal laws associated
with the organisation. Update yourself and the stakeholders about
the revised legal implications. By following the apt rules give
justice to others and also be rightful in obtaining justice
whenever required.
- After a detailed evaluation of all the above business ethics I
would ensure all the policies and protocols adhere to the above
said business ethics. May it be marketing or financial management
or any other department it will be the sole responsibility of the
manager or head of the organisation to implement these, business
ethics in a sophisticated manner.
- Conduct frequent audits and departmental visits to ensure all
things are working fine.
- Take patient feedbacks and address the complaints to work more
on the patient satisfaction.
- Conduct awareness programmes on the topics related to business
ethics and corporate social responsibity every 6 months.
