16. Name three of the four parts of the axial skeleton.
17. Name one type of moveable joint and give an example of where it
is found.
18. Name the type of bone tissue that protects against jolts and
bumps.
19. How does the skeletal system help maintain calcium levels in
the blood?
20. What is the process that forms new bone called? What role
does the process
play in an adult whose bones have stopped growing?
Ans. 16. axial skeleton includes the bones that form :
Skull, laryngeal skeleton ,vertibral column ,thoracic cage.
17.Hinge joint: the ends of bone are shaped in a way that allows motion in two direction ,forward & backward . Eg. Knees joint are hinge type.
18. bone tissue Compact bone is hard, dense layerthat protects against jolts and bumps. It is found inside the periosteum but outside spongy bone.
19. Calcitriol regulates thelevel of calcium and phosphorus in blood and help to maintain a healthy skeleton system . Bone resorption by osteoclasts releases calcium into blood stream ,which helps to regulate calcium homeostasis.
20. Ossification ( osteogenesis)is the bone remodeling is process of laying down new bone material by cell called osteoblast . It is synonymous with bone tissue formation.
Two process that form our bones before we r born: intermembranous and endochondral ossification .
Growth plate continue to lengthen bones until age 14 in girls& 16 in boys . In both geneders, the surge of estrogen at puberty causes growth plate cartilage to change into solid bone. Growth plate disappeared when the skeleton reaches the maturity and bone stops growing.
