Adam tells you that bacteria are so primitive and uninteresting. If it weren't for their disease-causing ability, we wouldn't care about them. Do you agree? Use three reasons to explain your position.
Bacterias are unicellular prokaryotic organism with an average size of 0.2-2 mm in diameter and 0.5-5.0 mm in length. Most bacterias are useful to the ecosystem and are known as Good bacterias. They play diverse roles from acting as a decomposers in the ecosystem to their roles in fermentation and pharmaceutical industries.
No,I don't agree to Adam's view as only less than 1% of the known bacteria are harmful to us.Amongst various roles that they play few are enlisted below.
ECOLOGICAL IMPORTANCE
Many bacterias play a major role in the soil ecosystem by their activity as scavengers. They carry out the decomposition of dead and decaying matte rand increases soil fertility at the same time removing harmful by- products from soil. They also participate in nitrogen fixation.
MEDICAL IMPORTANCE
Bacterias are involved in the production of many dietary health supplements, immunomodulators, antibiotics and antitumour agents amongst others.E.coli has a major role in molecular biology for production of recombinant proteins.
INDUSTRIAL IMPORTANCE
Many milk products of great values like cheese, curd buttermilk are all commercially produced with the help of bacterias. Many brewery industries exploits various kinds of bacterias for the production of ethanol, citric acid acetone etc.
