Started in 1869 as the Women's suffrage Association, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucretia Mott were the founding members of this group. This association fought for providing equal rights to women and the right to vote. The movement was met by many oppositions and disagreements for a very long time but on 18th August 1920, the government finally sanctioned, all American women the right to vote and all other equal rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The movement lost some momentum because of the civil war and the world war. However, The work done by women during the war and all the help they provided benefited the movement and the government finally authorized the 19th amendement. Some of the successes that came because of the movement are:

• 1893, States began to grant women the right to vote.
• 1903, A union was formed for the working women.
• 1916, Women gained access to birth control.
• 1920, The 19th Amendment becomes law and women have the right to vote.
• 1963, Congress passes the equal pay act.
• 1972, Patsy Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act allowed equal opportunity to education for women.
• 2013, Ban on women in combat is lifted.
