Long-term care refers to a comprehensive set of medical, personal and social services coordinated to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of people with chronic illnesses or disabilities. A nursing home may be the best option for people who need 24-hour medical care and supervision.
Nursing homes provide the most comprehensive care a person can get outside of a hospital. Nursing homes provide assistance with maternal care - such as bathing, dressing and feeding - as well as skilled care. Qualified nursing care is provided by a registered nurse and includes medical observation and treatment.
Skilled care also includes services provided by specially
trained professionals, such as physiotherapists, occupational
therapists and respiratory therapists.
