Hepatic vein

Thoracic duct

Hepatic portal vein

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hepatic vein carries blood from the liver to the heart.

a.Aorta -It is the main and largest artery . Aorta carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the other parts of the body

b. Hepatic vein-It carries deoxygenated blood from liver to the inferior vena cava, which carries blood to the right atrium of the heart. The 3 hepatic veins are right hepatic vein, left hepatic vein and middle hepatic vein.

c. Thoracic duct-It is the largest lymphatic vessel  of  the lymphatic system. It is also called left lymphatic duct, chyleferous duct or alimentary duct.It carries chyle(it is a liquid which contains both lymph and emulsified fat) to the circulatory system(near brachiocephalic vein between the internal jugular vein and left subclavian veins). It also carries lymph in the body other than neck, arm, head and right thorax.

d. Hepatic portal vein-It carries blood and nutrients from the spleen, stomach, gall bladder and intestines to the liver

Oxygen-rich blood bound for the body tissues leaves the heart through the aorta, the major blood vessel emerging from the heart. It branches out to the arteries, which in turn branch into smaller vessels called arterioles (little arteries). These then branch into tiny, thin-walled capillaries. Blood travels slowly as the red blood cells squeeze through tiny capillaries. The radius of the aorta is approximately 9.8 mm and the speed of the blood there is 30 cm/s. A typical capillary has...

Heart muscle contains a form of PFK-2/FBPase-2 that is different from that in liver. In heart muscle, phosphorylation of PFK-2/FBPase-2 by protein kinase A (also called cAMP-dependent protein kinase) activates PFK-2 and inhibits FBPase-2. Explain why this makes metabolic sense for a response of heart muscle to epinephrine. (Heart muscle cells have receptors for epinephrine, but not for glucagon.)
