Using the table of electronegativity values from Part 2, rank the following covalent bonds in order of increasing polarity. (These bonds represent individual bonds only; they do not represent a complete covalent species.) N-S, C-F, P-Cl, C-Mg, H-Si

Solutions

Expert Solution

electronegativity of N = 3.04 and S = 2.58 thus electronegativity difference = 0.46

electronnegativity of C = 2.55 and F = 3.98 thus electronegativity diffrence is = 1.43

electronegativity of P = 2.19 and Cl = 3.16 thus electronegativity difference is = 0.97

electronegativity of C = 2.55 and Mg = 1.31 thus electronegativity difference is = 1.24

electronegatativity of H = 2.1 and Si = 1.9 thus electronegativity difference is = 0.2

diffrence in electronegativity is more bond is more more polar therefore ordrer of increasing polarity in bond is given as below

H - Si < N - S < P -Cl < C - Mg < C -F
