Question

In: Chemistry

write the bond order for covalent bonds in each of the molecules: SiO2 TeO2

write the bond order for covalent bonds in each of the molecules:

SiO2 TeO2

Solutions

Expert Solution

Bond order is the type of Bond present between two atoms. If the there is only one bond between two atom then the bond order is one and similarly if two bond the Bond order is two

Here we need to find bond order of these molecules

Lewis structure of SiO2 is same as CO2 that is

O=Si=O so bond order between Si and O in SiO2 will be two and In TeO2 molecule the structure will be same as SO2 that is bent shape and also bond order will be two

So bond order is 2 for both the cases as the question is giving bond order of molecules but these are found in giant forms and bond order will be different
