Question

In: Biology

Define Ionic bond, polar covalent bond, non-polar covalent bond, hydrogen bond.

Define the following terms and give an example of each: Ionic bond, polar covalent bond, non-polar covalent bond, hydrogen bond.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ionic bonds: are bonds that transfer electrons between atoms that have opposite charges.

polar covalent bonds: These are bonds that form when atoms unequally share the electrons and are attracted more to one nucleus than the other.

non-polar covalent bonds: These are bonds that form between two atoms of the same element or between elements that share electrons equally.

hydrogen bonds: This is a weak interaction that occurs regularly between water molecules.

the difference between a nonpolar covalent bond, a polar covalent bond, and an ionic bond. Choose the BEST answer: A.Ionic bonds can be considered as 100% polarized toward the metal. B.Polar covalent bonds display partial polarization toward the nonmetal, while ionic bonds exhibit full polarization. C.Nonpolar covalent bonds involve full/equal sharing of electrons, while polar covalent and ionic do not. D.These three types of bonds are part of a continuum that is affected the average electronegativity of the bonded atoms.
