Formal And Informal Communication.
Communication is very important in health care field to develop a positive relationship with each other and also to share informations and ideas with each other. . Employees and other personals in the health care settings need to exchange their ideas and informations about daily care task, and Patients overall health and safety.
Formal communication.
Formal communications are internal communication. Formal communication flows through official Channels designed in the organization chart. Formal communications are more structured. Health care personals use formal communication when they are explaining about hospital policies and procedures. This type of communication use more medical or scientific language. Formal communication start with greetings. Formal communications are mostly written than oral.
Informal Communication.
Informal Communication flows freely in the organization and it is faster than formal communication. Informal Communication iless structured. It allows more interaction between Patients and care givers. This type of communication include Patients interest, family, daily activities etc. In this communication people communicate more friendly. These communication have no predefined channels and communication routes. Informal Communication is considered as more effective because the employees can discuss work related issues, build more proactive and healthy relationship.
Eamples For Effective And Ineffective Communication.
Ineffective Communication.
Example for ineffective communication is during a stressful situation health care provider provides as much as information as possible, as quickly.For example a patient's health is declining the nurse make a phone call to the physician and provide all the datas in a disorganized manner, it will make confusion rather than early attention to the patient. The communication should be in an organised and logical manner.
Effective Communication.
Example for effective communication is, nurse provides a detailed explanation about discharge summary to a patient. The patient have many doubts about his diet, medications, review dates, insurance policy etc. The nurse should give a detailed explanation for each of his doubts and the patient is satisfied with her explanation, then we can say it as an effective communication.
