A. Principal pays agent by the job. Workers whom you pay by the hour, week, or month are more likely employees. In contrast, independent contractors are usually paid by the job.

B. Agent has multiple clients. If an agent works for more than one clients at a time then he is an independent contractor whereas employees work full time for one emplyer.

C. Principal withholds payroll taxes. Employers have to withold and pay the payroll taxes for employees but if agent is independent contarctor then there is no such need.

D. Principal provides agent with tools. When agent use the tools, material and other equipment provided by prinicipal, then such agent is an employee otherwise an independent contractor.

E. Agent's work is supervised by Principal. If the work of agent is supervised by Principal then agent is en employee otherwise he is an indepedent contractor.
