1. Differentiate HIV infection from AIDS. Explain how HIV can spread in the community.
2. The STDs or venereal diseases can be transmitted from one person to another through sexual intercourse. Describe the symptoms of gonorrhea, genital herpes, and syphilis infections. Explain how they can be prevented.
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a type of virus that attack the body's immunity and make the person suspectable to disease.HIV Infection is caused by virus.HIV can spread to others through bodily fluids or unprotected sex with HIV infected person.
Untreated HIV can lead to the disease AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).AIDS is the advanced stage of HIV infection.In this stage immune system of the patient is so low.If a HIV infected patient takes medication regularly he can stop the progression to AIDS.AIDS is diagnosed by based on CD4 cell count and development of opportunistic infections.
HIV is spread by ;
1.Sexual contact: HIV is most commonly spread by unprotected sex with an infected partner.
2 Blood contamination:HIV is spread through contact with infected blood.
3.Needles:HIV can be spread by needles or syringe sharing with infected person.Accidential prick with contaminated needle cause spread of HIV infection.
4.Mother to Infant:HIV can spread to babies whose mother is HIV positive.
2.Gonorrhoea is sexually transmitted infection and is caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhea.Some times gonorrhea don't show any symptoms.Gonorrhea is curable but if it is left untreated it can cause serious problems.
Symptoms of gonorrhea in woman: 1.Abnormal discharge from the vagina.
2.Pain while peeing
3.Bleeding between the periods.
4.Pain in the lower abdomen.
Men have more symptoms if they have gonorrhea.
Symptoms in men
1.White or yellow discharge from peniss
2.Pain while peeing.
3.Inflammation or swelling of foreskin.
Gentials Herpes is sexually transmitted disease is caused by the Herpes simplex virus.It can cause sores on the genital areas.
Genetial Herpes Symptoms:.
1 Itchy bisters on vagina,cervix, penis,anus.The blisters break and turn into sores.
2.burning when you pee
3.Pain around the gentials
4.Feeling unwell with aches,pain and flu like symptoms.
5.unusual vaginal discharge in women.
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Treponena pallidum .It spread between the people through direct contact with sore
Symptoms of syphilis
Primary syphilis: Painless firm sores or chancres appears on the skin.This can resolve within 2-6 weeks without treatment.If untreated it can progress to next stage.
Secondary syphilis:There are non itchy red rash on the truck and spreads to entire body.Patient have Fatigue, swollen lymph node,fever and muscle aches.
Without the treatment they progress to next stage.
Latent syphilis:This stage last for many years.Patient have the disease without symptoms.
Tertiary syphilis:It happens many years after the onset of disease.At this stage most of organs like heart,liver,bone are damaged by syphilis.Gummas develop.Untreated tertiary syphilis cause death.
Neurosyphilis occurs when infection spread to nervous system.The patient may have dementia, confusion, headache and abnormal gait.
