39. a. check the toddler’s ID band against the medical record.
Always do identification of the patient with ID band and medical record irrespective of age to remove the errors associated with patient identification. This is included in international patient safety goal.
Pediatric patients may be wandering here and there. So it is not practicable to identify them with room number. Parents can provide the information regarding patient's( toddler) name, age, date of birth. But it is possible to have another patient in the unit with same name, age, date of birth. The nurse who is resposible to give medication must identify the patient correctly, it not to be asked the collegue to do so.
