My area of interest is clinical field specialist in Operation theatre.

Because it’s very interesting, challenging and improves our knowledge and skills by working with different team members including surgeons, anaesthesia etc.

Yes, there is need for more nurses in this area because some nurses refuses to work in Operation theatre because common reason is they feel scared to see cuts directly and it’s a critical area where nurses have many responsibility, challenges, workloads etc.

2. Describe the importance of evidence-based practice. How do nurses in your area of interest use evidence-based practice? Give two examples.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is important because it aims to provide the most effective care that is available, with the aim of improving patient outcomes. Patients expect to receive the most effective care based on the best available evidence.

Example: Application of evidence-based measures to reduce surgical site infections during orthopedic surgery

Applying evidence-based measures relating to the correct use of prophylactic antibiotics, perioperative normothermia, urinary tract catheterization and hand hygiene, important contributions can be made to reducing the risk of postoperative infections and device-related infections

3. Describe the impact that your example of evidence-based practice has on patient care, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.

Orthopaedic patients have high chance to get infection after surgery but if we provide measures to reduce surgical site infections during orthopedic surgery like prophylactic antibiotics, perioperative normothermia, urinary tract catheterization and hand hygiene can help reducing the risk of postoperative infections and device-related infections.

This helps in patient care and improves nursing practice and shows quality outcomes for patients
