a)Think of a time you grossly misinterpreted a person(of any race) or situation. What information was missing that allowed you to draw incorrect conclusion? What in your belief system contributed to your misinterpretation /misperception?
b)Honestly , What is your perception of your Oral Communication teacher ? What caused the perception and what changed that perception (if it is changed)?
a) An incident that I misinterpreted a person ( of a particular race) was during the training period. I actually underestimated the person because the person belonged to a minority class. This was a learning for me to not to have any stereotypes or preconceived notions about others. I was actually the trainer for this particular new employee. She struggled to learn the concepts in my workplace. However, she was exceeding expectations in her performance. Many stakeholders appreciated her efforts. The missing information that allowed me to draw incorrect conclusion is her assertive behavior. Her confidence to accept responsibilities was missing in her behavior that made me to underestimate her. The factor that only people who made their efforts visible was actually a misinterpretation. She was a silent performer.
b) Honestly, my perception of my oral communication teacher is that she had mastered her English courses. She was an inspiration to me. She made me to understand how others perceive of me and helped me to groom myself to be more professional. She helped me personally by giving me books to read which would help me improve my communication skills (mainly via e-mails). This made me adept in English language and I became a quality checker for e-mails for the new joiners in my workplace.
