How will we ensure that we continue to work to overcome each of the weaknesses as a negotiator during a negotiation
In order to continually improve on our skills as a negotiator and in order to work on our weaknesses, we need to work on recognizing cultural nuances and how whoever we are negotiating with are affected by it. The consideration of cultural intelligence is an ever-learning process and the more we study different cultures, the better we get at working on our other weaknesses. We also need to work on being patient, accepting rejection, and dealing with our emotions. No matter the level of emotional intelligence, being aware of our cognitive biases, and how emotional imbalance affects our rationality is useful in tough negotiation situations.
Building a network is not just beneficial for doing more business, it actually lets us build better rapport with the other party, even without personal contact with them, if we have a good rapport within a network that they are a part of, therefore, working on socialization as a means to further communication should also be something that we can do to essentially prevent situations of tough communication with the other party.
The most important thing is to work on your body language. While
we could be saying one thing, if our body language gives out a
different energy, the entire process can easily be sabotaged. We
need to work on picking up these signals from the other parties
while consciously being aware of our own in order to maintain
positive energy and therefore, working on recognizing nonverbal
communication cues would help us work on our weaknesses in other
areas of negotiation as well.
