Define the cell cycle and include the stages and what occurs during each?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Cell cycle: is series of events through which a cell undergoes to duplicate its genome to divide equally to its daughter cells.

Different stages of cell cycle and its importance

Phase I

  • G0 phase: it is the resting phase of the cells where it keeps it’s all biological process dormant
  • Interphase: it is the phase between two consecutive cell division and also known as preparatory phase as during this phase cell prepares itself for replication. This phase is further subdivided into a)G1 phase: in this cells sythesise all the proteins required for doubling of its genetic material. B) S-phase: cells duplicates its genome D) G2 phase: cells prepares for division into two daughter cells
  • Mitotic pahse: a) prophase: synthesis of spindle fibers starts

b) metaphase: sister chromatids aligns at metaphasic plate to move in opposite direction

c) Anaphase: sister chromatids strat moving in opposite direction towards poles

d) telophase: chromatids reaches the poles and spindle fibers start dissolving

phase-II

cytokinesis: when chromatids reaches poles, then division of cytoplasm to produce two daughter cells.
