when steve becomes stepahnie, how do conservative vendor react to it ? does it affect the corporate culture ?
When Steve becomes Stephanie then conservative vendor will of course react with emotions of being shocked, appalled, confused and overwhelmed. It will become very difficult for the conservative vendor to deal with Steve after his gender transition and after he becomes Stephanie. This is because being a conservative the vendor will not support the decision of gender transition, rather will be against it. It is here that Henrietta Mercer’s role will play an important part. She should have to invest in education and training of all stakeholders of the company, including its vendors. She will have to use a change agent and then educate the conservative vendor about the need for Steve to become Stephanie and how this personal decision of him will not affect and impact his work and relationships with vendor. Open communication with the vendor will be required and Henrietta will have to change the outlook and orientation of the vendor with regards to gender transition.
It will change the corporate culture at the organization for the better. The issue of Steve’s gender change will make room for certain changes in organizational policies and instigating a tangible corporate change. The company’s policy towards equal employment opportunities will have to be amended to include ‘gender identity’ and ‘sexual orientation’. Moreover the company will have to support Steve and will seek support of all its stakeholders for this. Diversity trainings will be incorporated. Open communication will become all the more essential and new perspectives from other organizations will be studied and implemented. All this will change the corporate culture at LaSalle Chemical but only for the better.
