Flood is defind as high stage in river river which overflows it's banks and ajoin the surrounding area and cause the full submergence of the surrounding area.

Classification of floods:-

* Fluvial Floods or River Floods - These floods occur due to the river water crossing it's bank and submerge the adjoining low lying areas due to reasons like heavy rainfall, failure of dam spillway, melting of glaciers, failure of river dykes etc.

* Pluvial Floods or Flash Floods - These floods occur when a high intensity of rainfall occurs for certain small duration of time or due to sudden release of water from dams or levees then entire area gets flooded with water along with debris.

* CoastalFloods - These are the floods occurring in coastal areas near sea due to high tides, cyclones and tsunamis.

Affects of Flood on human beings :-

* As flood submerge an area it enters people home and people have to leave their homes and evacuate to a high lying area to save their lives so flood causes loss of human life's.

* Flood causes damage to property.

* Flood causes damage to crops due to submergence. And people have to starve.

* Flood causes loss of life to cattles and livestock on which human depends for milk, meat and wool etc.

* Flood also causes development of water borne diseases due to mosquito and fly. etc.
