What does "Tonus" mean ?
Tonus is the natural and continuous slight contraction of a
muscle. In physiology, medicine, and anatomy, muscle tone (residual
muscle tension or tonus) is the continuous and passive partial
contraction of the muscles, or the muscle's resistance to passive
stretch during resting state. It helps to maintain posture.
muscle tone prepares the persons for action, maintains balance and
posture, generates heat that keeps the muscles healthy, and allows
for a quick, unconscious reaction to any sudden internal/ external
stimuli.
