What does percent abundance mean? What does relative abundance mean? What is the difference?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Both percent abundance and relative abundance of a chemical element represent percentage values of chemical elements that is present in the environment.

Percentage abundance is used for the isotopes. It tells about the percentage of each isotopes present when compared it to the total. From the percentage abundance, you can calculate the average atomic mass of the element.

Relative abundance tells about the percentage of chemical elements present in the environment. Relative abundance gives a percentage of one element present with respect to other.
