3. Dr. B, a psychiatrist in private practice, is approached by a pharmaceutical company to assist with a clinical trial to test the efficacy of a new drug in the treatment of acute psychosis. The study will enroll acutely psychotic patients with no history of psychosis (or of treatment with antipsychotic drugs) through physicians’ offices and emergency departments. Patients enrolled in the study will be randomly assigned to receive the new medication or a placebo and will remain in hospital for eight weeks. During this time, they will not be permitted to receive antipsychotic medications other than the study drug. Informed consent will be obtained from each participant or a proxy. Patients may be withdrawn from the study if their medical condition worsens substantially.

Expert Solution

The way of research here is good. Based on ethical consideration

Informed consent: the doctor should inform to the patient, that it is called test, and should explain the procedure. After listening everything, the patient should give his consent, by himself. Then only it should carry out.

Voluntary participation: the patient should participate in this trial, volunteerly. Doctor or any other should not force for that. So here patient have mental disorders. So hus opinion can't consider. So doctor should consider patient' s family.

Do not harm: the doctor should be careful that, his experiment should not harm the patient in any way. So here doctor allowing him to stay in his hospital for 8 weeks . So if there is any complication also, doctor can manage bthat. So that is a good way.

Confidentiality:Here doctor and the patient need to maintain confidentiality. So patient is mentally ill, so doctor always consider the patients family. Here this all details should be confidential.

Anonymity: here patient's information should be maintain privacy. Or it can also tell as facelessness. Identity of the patient should keep confidentiality.

Use relevant information: here the doctor should focus on the information which is necessary.

Overall the way of research is good here. With the support of family of patient, the doctor can do this trial.
