Explain the spectral differences between the spinach and the Cordyline fruticose leaves.

What determines the leaf color in plants? Provide a structure and of the molecule and explain why green is the predominant color.

Why do deciduous trees change color in the fall (biochemical explanation). Provide a molecule responsible for yellow and one for red color. Why are these molecules necessary in addition to the chlorophyll?

Expert Solution

Spectral difference between spinach leaves and cordyline fruticose leaves are

Spinach leaves belongs to family Amaranthacea native to.western Asia and central.their leaves are eatable.nd leave are alternate, simple and ovate to triangular in shape and very variable in size 2-30 cm long and 1-15 cm broad, with larger leaves at the base of the plant and small leaves on the higher flowering stem.

Cordyline fruticose

It is evergreen floweing plant belong to family asparagaceae it is woody plant with leaves 30-60cm long and 5-10 cm wide at the top of the stem.leaves are larger and darker green in colour nd plant regularly shed their old leaves nd grow new leave

GREEN colour is due to presence of photosynthetiv pigment cholorophyll. It is four porphin ring joined by methylene bridges.

The deciduos plant change colour in fall because green colour due to chlorophyll breakdown and disapper nd yellow to red colour become visible and give their leaves part of their fall spendor.

Red colour due to Anthocyanin pigment and yellow colour due to caretenoids mainly tetraterpenoids. The molecule are necessary because the are responsible for different colour in plant and maintain regulation of many factor like growth, pigmentation nd responsible for stimulation of many hormones in plants
