Out of the Fayol, Weber and Taylor classical organizational theories, which classical theory would be most familiar to a college student? Why?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The college student will be most familiar with Weber theory. Max Weber (1947) expanded on Taylor's theories, and laid stress on the need to reduce ambiguity and diversity in companies. The main focus has to be on the establishment on clear lines of control and authority. Weber's bureaucratic theory emphasized the requirement for a hierarchical structure of power to ensure efficiency and economic effectiveness. It is an ideal model for management students and its study helps to bring an organisation's power structure into focus. The employees are selected on the basis of their expertise; and are paid for their services and that level of their salary is dependent on job position. As per bureaucratic theory of Max Weber, three types of power can be found in companies; traditional power, charismatic power and legal power. All these powers are studied by college students and they are very well familiar with these.
