Role of nurses in empowering the older adult.:
Empowering older people in the acute setting requires changes throughout the health system. First of ll the nurses should have excellent communication skills so that they can have a good interpersonal relationship with the patient.Whatever the care we give as a nurse, it should be patient centered rather our -own selfish purpose. A registered nurse priority should be the patients and giving quality care.
Since, older people fell lonliness, the registered nurse should treat them with warmth smile and should consider them as human beings. S, whatever they say we have to listen to them properly.Group discussuions of people of the same age group can be organised to facilitate communication and to keep away lonlineess of the patient.
The patient or older patients are always anxious. So, proper education must be given to the patients. and whatever treatment we carry out we have to properly explain about it, so that they wll be coperating with the treatment.
Older patients should be empowered to modfy their life style by following a healthy diet and following good regular exercise. As, a nurse, we have to give advice about the nutrition and exercise and should encourage to follow it.
So. through the follwing ways the nurse can help the elderly patient sto feel empowered. They are:
-understand the patient.
-aquistion by patinetsof sufficinet knowledge to be ------able to
engage with their health care provider.
-patient skills
-presence of a facilitating environment.
